The National Association for Surface Finishing, or NASF, held a special ceremony at SUR/FIN 2012 to recognize the contributions of select individuals who have demonstrated their longtime commitment to the surface finishing industry. The categories and winners were as follows:

Criteria: Award of Merit is given to individuals for outstanding service of a local and/or national nature. The individuals who received this award are making a difference with their contributions to the industry, and their actions reflect the ethic of commitment and volunteer leadership that improve the association as well as the industry’s future.
AWARD OF SPECIAL RECOGNITIONBeth Gotthelf, Partner, Butzel Long Evelyn Hallberg, Executive Director, Chicago Metal Finishers Institute Dr. Keith Legg, President, Rowan Technology Group
Criteria: Award of Special Recognition is presented to individuals who are not members of the National Association for Surface Finishing but have made a significant contribution to the industry.
SILVIO TAORMINA AWARD Jerry Wahlin, AAA Plating & Inspection, Inc.
Criteria: One of NASF’s most prestigious awards, given to an individual who has performed outstanding service to the finishing industry.
AUGUST P. MUNNING AWARDBernie Haviland, Haviland USA
Criteria: Given to an NASF Supplier Member who, in the opinion of his/her peers, has significantly contributed to the future well being of the NASF and who exemplifies the traits of August P. Munning—his great interest, hard work, dedication, and selfless devotion to the metal finishing industry.
SCIENTIFIC ACHIEVEMENT AWARDDr. Hideyuki Kanematsu
Criteria: Recognizes a person who has:
- contributed to the advancement of the theory and practice of electroplating, metal finishing and the allied arts
- raised the quality of processes and products
- enhanced the status of the profession
- been involved in a combination of the above
PRESIDENTIAL AWARD David Marsh, Marsh Plating
Criteria: Focuses on the extraordinary service put forth by an NASF member.
