NanoSteel bid to improve automotive structure expertise

Geck has more than 40 years of technical leadership roles at Ford Motor Company and is a global expert in vehicle structure and materials design. NanoSteel says that the appointment brings a deeper knowledge of commercial performance requirements as the company enters the automotive industry and the commercial introduction of its automotive Advanced High Strength Steel (AHSS).

Geck has previously led global cross-industry lightweighting initiatives, including the Improved Materials & Powertrain Architectures for 21st Century Trucks (IMPACT), which demonstrated a 25% weight reduction in pick-up trucks with new steel technology. Geck also previously chaired the Auto/Steel Partnership, spearheading the development and adoption of new automotive steels into the industry.

“Given NanoSteel’s accelerated development in automotive sheet steel, Paul brings powerful expertise to our team at this exciting time of new growth,” said David Paratore, president and CEO of NanoSteel. “Paul’s deep knowledge in automotive steel materials design will be invaluable in defining performance requirements as we move from production runs to validation testing on specific parts.”

Geck confirms a bright future: “NanoSteel’s breakthrough offers the properties and processability that meet the automotive industry’s definition of Generation 3 AHSS. Performance capabilities achieved to date indicate that NanoSteel’s design is one of the next logical steps in the automotive industry’s race to meet the new 2017 and 2025 fuel economy standards.”
