Multi-laser AM services

US start-up VulcanForms is reportedly offering digital additive manufacturing (AM) services for companies that want to make complex industrial products.

The service includes help with materials selection and product design and the creation of a scalable manufacturing workflow using the company’s laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) metal 3D printing. The process is monitored digitally and can include machining and other post-processing, according to VulcanForms.

VulcanForms’ 3D printing technology reportedly allows for large number of lasers to operate at the same time.

The company has installed 3D printers at a facility in Devens, Massachusetts, and post processing equipment at a plant in Newburyport in the same state.

“VulcanForms believes that one of the greatest opportunities in the United States is rebuilding its industrial ecosystem around digital production systems,” said company founder John Hart, who is also a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). “Digital-first production technologies, including additive manufacturing and automated precision machining, enable more innovative, resource efficient, and resilient supply chains.”
