Mid State Plating is the most recent company to be placed on the Columbia Approved Resource (C.A.R.) list. Implemented in 2010, C.A.R. is a stringent quality audit system designating applicators as approved resources. Once approval has been achieved, applicators’ names are made available to all OEMs and Tier 1s.

Mid State Plating was established in 1967 by brothers Bob, Bud, Ed and Dale Stokes. The plating division branched off as an affiliate of the original company in 1994, but continued to work closely under separate family ownership under Bud and David Stokes. Located in Flint, Mich., the company provides quality metal finishing services to the automotive and other industries and includes rack and barrel zinc electroplate, zinc phosphate coating, vibratory deburring, and cleaning. Their modern 30,000 sq. ft. facility includes computer controlled and monitored plating lines and complete laboratory facilities for process control, inspection and testing. The company has been certified for their QS9000 system and is currently TS16949 registered. Mid State Plating has achieved General Motors approval for GMW 3044 X with Columbia Chemical’s SpectraMATE 25 and Zinc-Chro-PELLENT.

Tim Stokes, vice president, oversaw the audit process to successful completion with the support of Chad Murphy, Columbia Chemical Technical Sales Representative. The approval process required collaborative efforts among key associates, including Doug Drury, plant superintendent; Dwayne Gillespie, production foreman; and Dana Linker, lab technician.

The C.A.R. approval is an added gold star to the company’s reputation of dedication to exemplary quality and customer service. “While we are big enough to get the job done, we are small enough to give our customers the personal service they deserve,” said David Stokes, president and owner. “Customer service is at the top of the list for everyone on our team."
