This expansion will make room for eight more direct metal laser melting (DMLM) machines, a dedicated training centre plus expanded finishing and tooling operations. Two DMLM machines are on order, an EOS M280 and one dual laser SLM280.

"This is phase one of the largest expansion in Linear's 11-year history and is designed to maintain and extend Linear's DMLM Leadership in North America," said John Tenbusch, president of Linear.

Linear currently designs and builds 3D printed conformal cooling channels for injection moulds for the mould making industry. However, it plans to develop its  DMLM 3D printing capabilities for  the automotive, aerospace & defence, energy and medical device industries.
