3D printer manufacturer Desktop Metal and Indo-MIM, the world’s largest supplier of metal injection molding (MIM) have formed a partnership to improve additive manufacturing (AM).
Indo-MIM plans to use the Desktop Metal AM production system in its factories, along with its tooling and sintering operations, metal powder, and range of finishing and assembly operations, to make parts for the automotive, aerospace, medical and industrial machinery industries.
Indo-MIM will also become a full-service manufacturing partner for Desktop Metal.
‘This is a major step forward in the progress of additive manufacturing,’ said Krishna Chivukula, Jr, CEO of Indo-MIM. ‘As the world’s largest MIM house, we know our customers in automotive, aerospace and other key industries will reap the benefits of this new mass manufacturing technology.’
According to Desktop Metal, its production system works more than four times faster than other binder jet systems and offers a 100 times speed improvement over any laser-based system. It can print a range of alloys, including reactive metals such as titanium and aluminum.
