Hybrid 3D printer incorporates CNC

Phillips Corporation has developed a hybrid 3D printer by integrating subtractive computer numerical control (CNC) machine tool technology and a laser head.

The CNC machine is supplied by Haas Automation while the additive laser head is manufactured by Meltio.

According to the company, its Additive Hybrid additive manufacturing (AM) machine can carry out traditional machining and direct energy deposition technology, making it possible to 3D print and complete a part using only one machine. It is also capable of  repairing or modifying parts by adding material and machining it to final shape, Phillips said.

‘Phillips Corporation is pleased to be joining forces with Haas and Meltio to harness the combined power of affordable subtractive and additive manufacturing,’ said Phillips CEO Alan M Phillips. ‘The commercial and federal industrial supply chains have accelerating interest, applications and demand for 3D printed parts.’
