Höganäs has closed its production facility in Niagara Falls, USA.

Höganäs says that it has closed its production facility in Niagara Falls, USA, due to a hydrogen gas supply shortage.

According to the company, hydrogen gas is an essential part in the production of Höganäs metal powder. In the Niagara Falls plant, Höganäs produces metal powder for automotive and aircraft brake pads, food fortification and water treatment.

Closing this facility will unfortunately lead to the redundancy of 33 full time employees, the company said.

‘We are deeply sorry to announce that we need to close our production in Niagara Falls,’ said Fredrik Emilson, CEO of Höganäs ‘This has not been an easy decision to make, and we have worked very hard to find viable alternatives to solve the current situation.’

Höganäs says that its long-term supplier of hydrogen gas announced its closure at short notice, resulting in the elimination of the facility’s hydrogen gas supply. ‘We have contacted all possible suppliers, but with the current severe shortage in the North American market due to high demand, we have unfortunately not been able to find a solution given the timeframe needed,’ said Dean Howard, president of Americas Höganäs.
