GKN Automotive publishes first sustainability report

GKN Automotive says that it has published its first standalone sustainability report.

This follows the launch of its sustainability strategy in 2021 which set targets for equality and environmental issues. GKN reportedly plans to have 75% of electricity consumed come from certified renewables by 2030, and 50% of its annual expenditure contribute towards the decarbonization of the automotive sector by 2025.

In 2022, some 86% of its research budget was spent on decarbonization and 99% of all waste was diverted from landfill, GKN said. It also had an up to 30GWh reduction in energy consumption, according to the company.

GKN Automotive is aiming for a net zero target of 2045.

“The automotive industry plays an essential role in decarbonizing the road transport sector and enabling the global transition to net zero through replacing vehicles that run on fossil fuels with battery powered electric vehicles,” said Dr Clare Wyatt, chief communications and sustainability officer. “ We are in a great position to be at the forefront of change in our industry, and we will continue to integrate sustainability throughout the business, turning our strategy into action.”
