GE plans to expand the headquarters and employee base of Concept Laser GmbH, and invest in more additive equipment and materials, three months after acquiring controlling ownership of the German additive manufacturing (AM) company.
The number of employees has grown from around 200 to 244 and is expected to reach between 350 to 400 people (mostly engineers and technicians) by early 2018, GE says. The expansion of its headquarters in Lichtenfels, Germany will include new floor space for manufacturing, product development and test, and administration.
‘Over several years, Concept Laser grew quickly and established a strong reputation with our innovations,’ said Frank Herzog, Concept Laser president.‘GE is enabling us to grow our infrastructure and bring more robust processes and greater resources to our operations. Our immediate focus is to mature our machines and apply the additional resources to improve customer responsiveness and mature, grow, and improve our product offerings.’
Concept Laser is also part of the GE Additive Technology Center (ATC) in Cincinnati, Ohio which focuses on how to use AM to mass-produce components for industrial products.
