GE joint venture to manufacture aircraft engine parts

CFM International, a joint venture between French aircraft manufacturer Snecma, and GE's Global Research Centre, will work on the parts, which could reduce weight and material waste.

GE announced the move to journalists at the Farnborough Air Show in the UK. While it didn’t specify which Leap parts are being made with additive manufacturing , it said that there could be a 30%-40% reduction of weight and amount of material.

GE will be using a SLM 250HL additive manufacturing machine, from SLM Solutions in Lubeck, Germany.
