Fraunhofer appoints new director

The Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Technology and Advanced Materials (IFAM) has appointed Professor Thomas Weißgärber as its new director.

Professor Weißgärber holds the professorship of powder metallurgy at the Technische Universität Dresden and was previously acting head of the Dresden branch of Fraunhofer. He established a center for expertise in the field of powder-based additive manufacturing in 2019.

"I see my new position as a motivation to continuously expand and develop existing expertise at Fraunhofer IFAM Dresden," said Professor Weißgärber. "Together with my team, we can leverage its excellent know-how, especially with regard to materials, powder metallurgy and additive manufacturing, in order to develop innovative, future-oriented ideas. This will allow us to generate optimal solutions in core areas such as energy technology, mobility and medical technology."
