The appointment was made at the association’s 24th annual General Assembly, which took place in Munich, Germany, on 3 May.
Gundermann started his career twenty years ago, involved in cobalt powder production at the Eramet Group. As CEO of Eurotungstene, he developed his knowledge in hardmetals powder metallurgy, cobalt, copper, nickel, and rhenium powder, before being appointed CEO of Erasteel and then Aubert&Duval, with a strong focus on powders: superalloys powders, high-speed steel powders and HIPped parts.
At the event, the retiring president, Ingo Cremer of Cremer Thermoprozessanlagen GmbH, reviewed the last six years of his presidency, including the economic turmoil in Europe.
“We would like to thank Ingo Cremer for his work on behalf of EPMA over his last two-terms as president, against some very difficult external conditions,” Gundermann stated.
The EPMA Council was re-elected with two changes: Dr Rainer Link, GKN Sinter Metals, replaces the retiring Volker Arnhold, and Jody Turin, Bodycote AB, joins the Council as the new representative for the HIP sector, with Peter Kjeldsteen, Sintex A/S, being elected to take over as treasurer.
Jonathan Wroe, EPMA executive director, then gave an update of EPMA’s activities over the past twelve months, including PM training courses and the Euro PM2012 Congress in Basel. He reported that the EPMA has a stable membership base and produced a better-than-anticipated, positive financial result in 2012. “We are looking forward to further growth in both the PM industry and the association, where we will be assisted by the newly launched European Additive Manufacturing Group (EAMG),” he said.
Next year’s Annual Meeting will take place on 6th June 2014, with the venue announced in due course.
