Concerns in post-AM powder removal

A survey by depowdering machine manufacturer Solukon suggests that health hazards and repeatability are the main concerns for 3D printing engineers with regards to manual powder removal.

In the survey of 23 additive manufacturing representatives, 78% of respondents assessed the issue of occupational health as very challenging or at least challenging, while 74% of the AM experts reportedly found it difficult to achieve repeatable cleaning results when powder is removed manually. Some 70% perceived quality as an important issue.

Solukon says that 70% of respondents also reported that the handling of heavy weight metal parts as a challenge.

Only 35% of rated powder recovery and disposal of powder as challenging.
