China tops world league table

The result put China at the top of world rankings for vehicle manufacture in September. According to CAAM’s projections, vehicle sales may exceed 12 million for the whole of 2009.

China exported 30 500 vehicles in September, up 38.98 percent compared with August, according to CAAM. However, only 217 400 vehicles were exported from January to August this year, down 57.17 percent from a year earlier.

Some 78 100 passenger cars were exported during the first eight months, a plunge of 67.05 percent from a year earlier; 143 000 commercial vehicles were exported, a drop of 47.28 percent year-on-year. International car manufacturers with operations in China also reported high third quarter sales figures. Ford, Toyota, General Motors and VW all reported sharp upward sales hikes.
