Arcam AB has received an order for five Arcam Q10 systems from China-based Beijing AK Medical. The systems will be used for volume production of orthopedic implants.
Beijing AK Medical, established in 2003, specializes in the research and development of artificial joint prostheses and its complete set of surgical instruments. Beijing AK Medical has been a customer to Arcam since 2010 and announced in August that it received formal approval from the Chinese State Food and Drug Administration (CFDA) for electron beam melting (EBM) manufactured implants. This was the first CFDA marketing approval for an additively manufactured orthopedic implant.
‘We are excited to move into volume production with the EBM technology,’ said Li Zhi Jiang, CEO of Beijing AK Medical. ‘Having worked with Arcam since 2010 we are now ramping up our activities, following the recent approval by the CFDA.’
