Carpenter Technology Corporation has opened an Emerging Technology Center (ETC) in Athens, Alabama, USA.
According to the company, the 500,000 ft2 center features ‘end-to-end’ capabilities in additive manufacturing (AM), atomizing a range of alloys into metal powder and turning the powder into finished parts using AM technology.
It also features downstream equipment to finish the 3D printed part, including a quick cooling hot isostatic press (HIP) system and vacuum heat-treating equipment. Parts manufactured in the center can then be qualified for use in a range of applications including aerospace, transportation, oil and gas, and energy.
Carpenter says that its ETC is designed to maintain full traceability and provide analysis throughout the manufacturing process via a digital thread.
‘Our Emerging Technology Center is a critical component of Carpenter Technology’s future growth and development and is aligned with our business strategy of evolving to an end-to-end solutions provider and influential leader in the AM area,’ said Carpenter Technology CEO Tony Thene. ‘We will also use it as a base to launch future investments as we expand our soft magnetics technology platform, scale up additional powder operations and demonstrate a number of next generation materials we have under development today.’
