BASF showcases PM in China

BASF will exhibit the products made using its powder metals in the fields of electronics, automotive, consumer goods, medical and communication technology.

Catamold is a ready-to-mould feedstock for metal injection molding (MIM) and ceramic injection moulding (CIM) for a range of low-alloy steels, stainless steels, special alloys and ceramics. Geometrically challenging components made of metal and ceramic can be injection moulded as easily as plastics, which provide manufacturers and users the widest flexibility in the design of work pieces.

BASF discovered the process of producing carbonyl iron powder 85 years ago, and is still the world's leading producer of CIP, the company says. It has improved batch-to-batch consistency and electrical property, and is suitable for inductor core, metal powder injection, diamond tools, food additive, and microwaves and radar absorption applications.
