ASTM to host zinc workshop

ASTM International has set the date for a workshop covering how zinc is used in hot dip galvanizing.

The workshop will take place on 8 May 2023 in Denver, Colorado and is sponsored by ASTM’s committees on metallic-coated iron and steel products and on nonferrous metals and alloys.

Topics include:

  • Ore to zinc process and methods to remove unwanted residual elements
  • Zinc ingot production for continuous and general galvanizing
  • Zinc alloys for hot dip galvanizing
  • Review of continuous galvanizing bath arrangement and constituents
  • Why multiple Al levels in ASTM standard B842 are required and how they are used by continuous galvanizing lines
  • A review of reasons for restricted lead in ASTM standard B852 zinc
  • Short review of Zn-5% Al and Zn-Al-Mg metallurgy
