ASTM to host 3D printing course in March

The ASTM International Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence (AM CoE) plans to host an additive manufacturing certificate program from 10-12 March 2020 at Auburn University in Alabama, USA.

According to the center, the course covers all basic concepts of the additive manufacturing (AM) process chain as well as core technical knowledge related to best practice, including standardized methodologies. It is open to anyone with interest in AM.

Specific modules include:

  • Terminology
  • AM process overview
  • Design and simulation
  • Feedstock
  • Post-processing
  • Mechanical testing
  • Non-destructive inspection
  • Safety issues
  • Qualification and certification

The program reportedly requires attendees to pass an exam to earn the ‘Basic AM Certificate’ that serves as a foundation and prerequisite for future specialized role-based AM certificates through the AM CoE. The certificate program has developed in compliance with the ASTM International standard practice for certificate programs, the organization said.
