Italian aerospace component manufacturer Avio has sent an order for six electron beam melting (EBM) systems. The systems are part of the supply agreement signed with Avio in autumn 2009 and will be delivered over the next three years (2013-2015). The order value is approximately SEK 30 million.
Arcam and Avio’s agreed to industrialise Arcam EBM technology for serial production of aircraft engine components in titanium aluminide. Now Avio has decided to expand its focus on EBM for the manufacture of components in titanium aluminide. The systems will be installed in a new facility that Avio set up for manufacturing of additive manufacturing.
“Our goal is to have products in production in the aerospace industry by 2014," said Magnus René, CEO of Arcam. "With this order, it becomes clear that the goal is within reach. " Arcam received 24 new machine orders in 2012, and it is entering 2013 with a "solid order backlog," René said.
Arcam has also received an order for an EBM system from a new customer, GKN Aerospace, in the UK. “With the order […] we are strengthening our position as a supplier of production equipment for this sector," René added. "We expect that our market in the aviation industry will continue to grow strongly in the coming years."
