APMI announces 2012 Fellow Award recipients

The Fellow Award recognises APMI members for significant contributions to the goals, purpose and mission of APMI, and high level of expertise in the technology, practice, or business of the powder metallurgy industry.

The recipients will be elevated to Fellow status at PowderMet 2012 in Nashville, Tennessee, USA, in June.

Ian Donaldson is the Director, Research and Development North America, and Materials Engineer at GKN Sinter Metals LLC.

He is being recognised for his work and collaboration with academia, customers and colleagues. He has been involved in research, process and product development, design, manufacturing and production, education/teaching, and many other technical advancement programmes in the powder metal industry.

Donaldson is a member of the APMI Board of Directors and is one of the judges for the annual APMI metallography competition. He is also the Chairman for PowderMet 2012.

Al Dornisch has been active in the powder metal industry for 55 years and has touched upon almost every facet of the industry.

He developed a formal powder metal education programme at Hennepin Technical College in Minnesota, and is still active as a consultant with Northern Precision Materials.

Dornisch also conducts formal powder metal training classes through the Community Education facility at St Marys, Pennsylvania. Furthermore, he has patented bronze-lined bearings and received the MPIF Powder Metallurgy Award in 2001.

Nominations for the 2013 Fellow Award are open until 1 March 2012.
