American Coatings Association Announces 2013 CoatingsTech Conference John A. Gordon Best Paper Award Recipient

The American Coatings Association (ACA) is pleased to announce that Brian Hinderliter, associate professor in the Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering department of Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), is the recipient of its 2013 CoatingsTech Conference John A. Gordon Best Paper Award. Hinderliter receives the honor for his paper titled, “Water Concentration Distribution in Coatings during Accelerated Weathering,” which he presented at ACA’s 2013 CoatingsTech Conference, held March 11-13 in Rosemont, Ill.

Hinderliter joined VCU’s Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering department in 2010. He spent the previous decade as a research scientist at North Dakota State University investigating coatings’ transport of water with associated ions and coating degradation through measurement and simulations. The techniques he developed and presently employs include Monte Carlo, finite element, and solutions to asymptotic limits through Central Limit Theorem statistical distributions.
