3D printing precious metals

HP has formed a collaboration with precious metal specialist Legor Group SpA to develop metals for HP’s 3D metal binder jet 3D printers.

The companies plan to initially develop stainless steel accessories for the jewelry and fashion markets and next develop bronze, silver and gold powders.

Research will take place in Legor’s facility in Bressanvido, Italy.

“The digital capabilities of HP Metal Jet provides an alternative method to the classic investment casting which requires the combustion of waxes or resins and the use of gypsum (calcium sulphate) as casting material, containing free breathable silica,” said Massimo Poliero, Legor president and CEO.
