Awards and Global Survey
Perhaps it was fortuitous that Germany, birthplace of the hardmetals industry, was chosen by EPMA for WorldPM2016, the World PM Congress and Exhibition, which comes to Europe just once in every six years. Having made this choice, the European Powder Metallurgy Association certainly made the most of the occasion, with a seminar and themed dinner to celebrate the centenary of Osram's invention and Krupp–Widia's initial commercialisation of tungsten-carbide-based hard materials. More about those later.
Opening Plenary
At the opening, Congress Chairman Michael Krehl of MSG Consulting (Fig. 1) and EPMA Executive Director Lionel Aboussouan welcomed over 1900 participants from more than 60 countries. They would attend more than 400 oral and poster presentations and an impressive international exhibition.
